We’re deploying an advanced metering infrastructure which will provide our customers with time-of-use consumption data.  2.4 million meters will be replaced throughout upstate New York and Maine.

Customer Service with Environmental Benefits

Our new Advanced Metering Infrastructure will be both an environmental and customer service initiative.  The time-of-use consumption data provided by the new meters will allow customers to monitor their energy costs.  Greater customer awareness will lead to greater understanding of the value of energy efficiency and increased conservation.   Conservation has numerous environmental benefits, including reduced need for generation capacity. Increased efficiency, particularly during times of peak use, may reduce the need to build more power plants.  In addition to the environmental benefits, the Advanced Metering Infrastructure contributes to lower operating costs, improved outage response, and greater system safety.
